lesson etiquette 101
the handshake.
ahh. trust me we all have thought about this from time to time, even to the extent of avoiding people because of it. so when do you shake someone's hand with a traditional shake, or when to use a 'moslem-brother' shake, with the recoil onto the chest, or a slide shake with a snap?
ok first off, the traditional shake is easy, with the only real possibility for disaster is sweaty palms. i mean what else can go wrong? just remember to wipe before shaking. easy. and you cant be faulted for 'trying' to be cool when everyone can see you're not.
and for the moslem-brother handshake, a little stereotyping is needed. you got your pakcik-pakcik's (i dont mean old malay men, even young men can fall into this category, you just have to, again, stereotype), your cousins who-just-got-engaged-and-wanna-feel-like-he-is-the-more-responsible-matured-guy, and last but certainly not the least, your typical malay family-guy. anyway, you dont have to worry about this very much, if you think you're cooler than them, just let them do it. this kind of shake thus revert back to the traditional handshake for you. a win-win, i say.
if you need to attempt what i'm going to call "the hip hop shake" then quickly decide which of the two of you is cooler. if they are the cooler person, then simply mimic exactly what they do. if you are cooler then they are, simply slap, snap, and pound in any creative order you want. and yes, sweaty palmers, remember to wipe before this too. me applied.
p.s. dont be a fool, stay in school.
